Q1.

(i) Verbal Communication

Verbal communication means sharing ideas, thoughts and information through words. It may be oral or written. Speaking with a teacher, talking to friends and giving a speech are examples of oral communication. Letters, emails and messages are examples of written communication. Good verbal communication should be clear, simple and polite. The speaker should use suitable words and proper tone. The listener should listen carefully and understand the message. Good verbal communication helps people avoid misunderstanding and builds good relationships.

  • Support your ideas with examples.
  • Allow others to participate.
  • Avoid personal criticism.

(iii) Barriers to Communication

Barriers to communication are problems that prevent a message from being understood properly. Common barriers include:

Clear language, active listening and proper feedback can reduce these barriers.

(iv) Style in Communication

Style in communication means the way a person communicates with others. A good communication style should be clear, polite, respectful and confident. The style may change according to the situation and the person. For example, communication with a teacher or officer should be more formal, while communication with friends may be informal. A good communicator chooses suitable words, tone and body language. A positive communication style creates trust and avoids misunderstanding.

Q2. Five-Minute Presentation

(i) G-20 Summit

Good morning everyone.

Today I am going to speak about the G-20 Summit. The G-20 is a group of major economies of the world. It provides a platform where countries discuss important global issues.

The G-20 discusses economic growth, trade, development, climate change, health, education and other international problems. It also promotes cooperation among countries.

India hosted the G-20 Summit in 2023. The theme of India's G-20 Presidency was “One Earth, One Family, One Future.” India focused on inclusive development, digital technology, sustainable development and the interests of developing countries.

The G-20 is important because many global problems cannot be solved by one country alone. Countries need to work together.

In conclusion, the G-20 promotes international cooperation and helps countries work together for a better and more sustainable future.

Thank you.

(ii) Climate Change

Good morning everyone.

Today I am going to speak about Climate Change. Climate change means long-term changes in the temperature and weather patterns of the Earth.

The major causes of climate change include burning coal, petrol and gas, deforestation, pollution and excessive use of natural resources. These activities increase greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.

Climate change causes rising temperatures, melting glaciers, irregular rainfall, floods, droughts and other environmental problems. It can also affect agriculture, animals and human health.

We can reduce climate change by planting trees, saving electricity, using renewable energy, reducing pollution and using public transport. We should also avoid unnecessary waste and protect natural resources.

Climate change is a global problem. Governments, organisations and ordinary people must work together to protect our planet.

Thank you.

Q3. Group Discussion

A: Today our topic is “Freedom: Is it a myth?” I think freedom is necessary for every person.

B: I agree. We have freedom of speech, movement and choice, but freedom also has limits.

C: Yes. We cannot use our freedom to harm another person. Rights must come with responsibilities.

D: Sometimes social, economic and political conditions restrict people's freedom. Therefore, complete freedom may not be possible.

E: But freedom is not completely a myth. People have many legal and social freedoms. We should use them responsibly.

A: I agree. Real freedom means having rights as well as respecting the rights of others.

B: So, we can say that freedom exists, but it is not unlimited.

C: Yes. Responsible use of freedom is the key to a good society.

D: But classroom learning has advantages too. Students can directly interact with teachers and classmates.

E: I agree. Classroom learning also develops communication and social skills.

A: E-learning is flexible and useful, but it cannot completely replace teachers.

B: Perhaps the best solution is to combine both methods.

C: Yes, a combination of online and classroom learning can provide better education.

D: This is called blended learning.

E: Therefore, e-learning can support classroom learning rather than completely replacing it.

Q4. Letters

(i) Letter to the Editor About Inadequate Tap-Water Supply

17, Club House Complex
Delhi
6 September 2026

The Editor
The Times of India
P.O. Box 350
New Delhi-17

Subject: Poor and inadequate supply of tap water in our locality

Sir/Madam,

Through the columns of your newspaper, I wish to draw attention to the poor water supply in our locality.

The residents of Club House Complex are facing serious problems because the supply of tap water is very irregular and inadequate. Sometimes water is supplied for only a short period, while on some days there is no supply at all.

People are forced to buy water or collect it from distant places. The problem is especially difficult for children, elderly people and working residents. The shortage of water is also creating hygiene and sanitation problems.

I request the concerned authorities to take immediate steps to improve the water supply and provide sufficient water to the residents.

I hope your newspaper will highlight this problem so that the authorities take necessary action.

Yours faithfully,
A Resident
