Drama




It is a play for theatre narrated by characters in dialogue form.

It can be performed in the theater or read as book.

It is that type of literature which is written for performance on the stage.

It is a play for theater told by character in dialogue form.

It is intended for stage representation by actors.

Medieval drama is: Miracle, Mystery, Morality and Interludes.

Types: Tragedy, Comedy, Tragic Comedy, Poetic Play, Dramatic Monologue, Problem Play, One-Act Play, Soliloquy, Dialogue, Monologue, Realistic Drama, Poetic Drama, Epic Theatre, Theatre of Absurd.

Comedy:

It is a funny or humorous drama which ends haply.

It is type of writing narrating a story which is anticipated to be performed.

It is written for amusing people.

Its examples are: The Importance of Being Earnest, Twelfth Night, The Comedy of Errors, A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Its forms are: Classical, Tragi-Comedies, Romantic Comedies, Comedy of Humour, Comedy of Manners, Masque, Frace etc.

Tragedy:

It a drama which ends sadly.

It deals mostly with tragic events.

It is concerned with the downfall of the hero or protagonist.

Its examples are: Hamlet, King Lear, Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet

Its forms are: Melodrama, Shakespearean, Revenge, Heroic, etc.

Tragi-Comedy:

It is a piece of literature containing elements of comedy and tragedy together.

It examples are: The Tempest, The Merchant of Venice, The Winter’s Tale,

Soliloquy:

When a character is speaking one’s thought aloud and other characters do not hear that.

 Monologue:

It is an uninterrupted speech by one person only.

The speaker speaks his thoughts aloud or directs directly to other person.
