  Emotion calls for action to be taken to either move away or face it and fight (the fight or flight response).

Ø  Emotional Quotient (EQ) is also called as Emotional Intelligence (EI).

Ø  An ability to identify and describe what people are feeling is EQ.

Ø  An awareness of personal strengths and limitations deals with EQ.

Ø  EQ helps in Self-confidence and self-acceptance.

Ø  EQ The ability to let go of mistakes.

Ø  An ability to accept and embrace change is due to EQ.

Ø  A strong sense of curiosity, particularly about other people deals with EQ.

Ø  EQ helps  us to  manage emotions in difficult situations

Ø  Emotional Quotient is about interpersonal interactions.

Ø  EQ is used to train and use the emotional mind.

Ø  EQ contribute to psychological as well as bodily welfare.

Ø  A person with a high EQ (emotional quotient) is known to better, happier and longer life.

To be emotionally intelligent we need to develop the following qualities:

Ø  Self-awareness: Self- awareness is the capability to know one's emotion effects on one self. 

Ø  Emotional Regulation: Emotional regulation is about controlling and managing ones emotions.

Ø  Resilience: In life we come across several terrible situations. To be strong make us deal with well and overcome them without being in a strewed emotional state for long.

Ø  Trustworthiness and conscientiousness: Being honesty and careful at the personal level is good for emotionally intelligent.

Ø  Adaptability:  For emotional intelligence one should be open to new ideas and should adjust himself with all situations in life.

Ø  Innovation:   being inventive and accepting new views and ideas are necessary for being emotionally intelligent.

Ø  Sensitivity: To be sensitive is an important for human beings; this feature also forms an important part of emotional intelligence.

Ø  Social competence: Man is born as a social animal and so for his emotional intelligence

Ø  Courage:  A person with high emotional intelligence shows courage in all fields of his life. 

Tips to develop emotional intelligence

 

Below are listed important tips or suggestions to develop emotional intelligence:

 

Ø  One should always think before speak. Never say something that is likely to have grave repercussion, consider the consequences from all points of view.

Ø  At the time of disturbed emotions sit down if you are standing. Also drink water or leave the spot till you get hold upon your emotions. 

Ø  Don’t hurry in your life; one should wait as long as time prevails.

Ø  Express your emotions strongly, but not violently.

Ø  Do not have a rigid attitude; be flexible in your view points through your life. 

Ø  Be conscious and manage your non-verbal communication like facial expressions, tone and pitch of voice, hand gestures, posture, etc.

Ø  Be also watchful to the non-verbal cues of others while they express emotions.

Ø  Try to be help needy ones in your life.

Ø  Be practical when a chance arrives and do not wait to be told what to do.

Ø  Don’t take tension yourself and be humorous in your life with others.

Ø  Be extravert that means share your feelings with someone.
